Wood is a wonderful material, but in the field of engineering, it requires a high degree of ingenuity and knowledge. The wooden structure, or rather the envelope of the renovated Hotel Bohinj and other construction and finishing works, was carried out by the company Riko in partnership with Tosidos. The architectural venture was effectively transferred from paper to practice with technological solutions.
Hidden gutters, lightning conductors and other installations, facade and roof coverings…
In addition to the improved insulation of the existing structure and the installation of energy-efficient triple-glazed larch windows, the company Riko took care of the hotel’s new facade. Larch cladding with vertical and horizontal beams is a real Swiss army knife – hidden gutters, lightning conductors and other installations, facade and roof cladding, balcony partitions, sliding and wing shutters.
The door in the public part of the hotel is also mostly in larch paneling…
The entire larch paneling is treated with a special coating to simulate natural accelerated weathering, which over time acquires a natural silver-gray patina. In the interior spaces, Riko installed plasterboard cladding and plastering and provided painting, while at the same time installing doors in the public part of the hotel, also mostly in larch paneling, rounding off the design of a public space enriched with details inspired by local tradition.
